Mike Huckman

Mike Huckman is the principal of his company, The Huckman Group, which he launched in 2025. He is a highly sought-after strategic communications consultant, presentation and media coach and speaker specializing in the life sciences sector. Drawing on decades of experience translating complex science and technology into compelling stories, Mike uses his distinctive communications approach to empower biotech, medtech, pharmaceutical and healthcare leaders and stakeholders to elevate their messages and connect strongly with global audiences, boosting comprehension and amplifying resonance. Mike’s thoughtfully tailored counsel is rooted in a deep understanding of life sciences ingenuity, communications, and, most importantly, the vital human element that is at the heart of breakthrough science and technology. His broadcast journalism career spanned nearly 30 years including 17 years working in local TV news in markets such as Detroit, Tucson, Boise, Billings and Great Falls, MT, and the decade he spent (2000-2010) covering the life sciences sector at CNBC. In 2010, Mike began his second career as a communications coach and consultant at Publicis Group’s MSL in New York City before moving to a leadership role at the boutique biotech investor relations and public relations firm, Pure Communications. In 2016, what is now Real Chemistry acquired Pure and promoted Mike to the role of Global Practice Leader of Executive Communications and where he continues to serve as a senior advisor. Mike also served on the BIO Board from 2022-2026. Mike graduated a long time ago from USC with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and played trumpet in the USC Trojan Marching Band. He is a diehard Trojan fan, a longtime spin instructor, newer pickleball player, and a dog dad to a two-year-old labradoodle rescue, Remy. Mike and his husband John, also a former TV reporter who now writes young adult novels, moved to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico last year.
